We are honey obsessed in our house…in fact with all 4 of my kids, they prefer honey over syrup any day on their favorite breakfast items. I make most of my homemade bread with honey instead of sugar so this is a staple on my grocery list.
After going to Walmart to pick up some Don Victor honey and bringing it home, my 2nd oldest son was so excited because he said he had never seen a honeycomb in real life before! If you have never purchased Don Victor honey before, it comes with a real honeycomb in it! When you go to Walmart to pick some up, look in the Hispanic food aisle. That is where I found the one I purchased. They only had the regular honey at my store but be sure to check to see if they have Don Victor Orange Blossom Comb Honey Globe Jar too.
We had some friends over this weekend and I decided to throw together a hot chocolate bar featuring honey stirring spoons with Don Victor honey. Here is my favorite recipe for crockpot hot chocolate my friend Ashley shared with me last year. It’s amazing!
- 1 can 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 1½ cups heavy whipping cream
- 6 cups milk
- 1½ tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups chocolate chips (You can do semi sweet, dark, milk or if your feeling crazy, white chocolate. It's my fav!)
- Add milk, whipping cream and vanilla to crock pot and stir. Add white hocolate chips and stir.
- Cover and heat on low setting making sure all the chocolate has melted. Cook for 2 hours on low or place on high for 30 minutes.
Now for a few fun decorations! I made these really cute moose mason jars to put some of the toppings in like marshmallows and candy canes.
First I painted the mason jar a cream color. If you plan on putting the tops back on the jars, do not paint the top part or they will be hard to screw on.
I painted 2 coats of the cream color and let it dry. Next I poured some red paint on plate and got ready to paint my moose on with my moose stencil.
Funny thing about living in a cold weather climate is that paint can really ruin if it’s left in your cold basement! I tried to paint my moose on and it was so runny it looked awful! So with no store in site I decided to “McGyver” it and find something else I could use to paint on this moose! In comes some extra red lipstick! It actually worked great! The only downside is it doesn’t dry so if you touch it, it will get on your hands. But I thought it made the moose look a little hairy and more realistic!
I tied some green raffia on top and filled with marshmallows! I made 2 jars and the other one I filled with candy canes.
Next up is my honey stirring spoons! I grabbed some wooden spoons and filled those with some Don Victor honey. Then sprinkled some red and green sprinkles on top for some festive fun and laid them out so guests could use them when drinking their hot chocolate.
And after all your guests have gone and you have cleaned up the hot chocolate, you can still have a beautiful tabletop with the Don Victor honey on display!
Happy Holidays and I hope your hot chocolate bar is just as warm as mine was!
What is your favorite thing to eat with honey??!
