Did you know it was national mac n’ cheese day? This recipe is so creamy and yummy, you will have a hard time not to eat the whole pan. I adapted it from The Pioneer Woman’s recipe with just a few adjustments. I just added some different cheese and some extra seasonings. Enjoy!

Molasses and Bacon Macaroni and Cheese
  • 4 cups dry macaroni
  • 1 egg beaten
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2½ whole milk
  • 2 heaping teaspoons dry mustard
  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese
  • 8 oz provolone cheese
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • cayenne pepper to taste
  • 1 heavy pinch of mcormicks molasses and bacon seasoning
  • bacon
  • parmesan cheese
  1. Cook the macaroni according to the box.
  2. In a small bowl, beat the egg.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and butter a large oval or rectangle dish.
  4. In a large pot, melt the butter and sprinkle in the flour.
  5. Whisk it together over medium-low heat. Cook for 5 minutes, whisking constantly so it doesn't burn.
  6. Pour in the milk.
  7. Add the mustard and wisk until smooth. Cook for 5 minutes or until thick.
  8. Temper the eggs, whisking constantly so the egg doesn't cook then pour the egg mixture into the sauce.
  9. Add in sharp chedder and provolone cheese and stir until melted.
  10. Add seasonings and stir.
  11. Pour over cooked macaroni and stir to combine.
  12. Top with cooked bacon and a handful of parmesan cheese.
  13. Bake at 350 degress for 20-25 minutes.
