Raise your hand if you have a tough time getting your kids to drink enough water?! Both my hands are raised, and since we live in Colorado, it’s super important that my kids not only get enough water, but also get water without lots of added sugar!
My kids inherited my husband’s looks and my bad teeth which means they are incredibly susceptible to cavities, just like I am. When my youngest was 5 we took him to the dentist for the first time and he had over 10 cavities. That translated to over $5,000 in dental bills and lots of tears for my little guy. I learned very quickly to start early with better dental hygiene – in fact, you’re supposed to take your child to the dentist for the first time within six months of the first tooth erupting. It has paid off big time with my 3 younger kids! They have had less cavities since we have learned better oral health.
Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation is partnering with me to get the word out about the “Cavities Get Around” campaign. Did you know fruit juice has almost as much sugar as soda? I never gave our kids soda, and I thought for the longest time that juice was the better option. Little did I know, that was the biggest factor in contributing to my oldest sons 10 cavities! It turns out, sugar from juice sitting on teeth is a huge problem, because bacteria feed on the sugar to make acid that eats through thin baby tooth enamel.
I also thought for the longest time that even if my kids got cavities, they could be fixed or would fall out anyway, so they weren’t that important right?! Well my oldest with the 10 cavities, is now in his 1st phase of braces because he had so many teeth pulled as a child. Then in a few more years he will get his 2nd set of braces to correct a problem we could have potentially avoided by offering him more water and less juice. I wish you could have seen my face when the orthodontist told me how much 2 sets of braces was going to cost!
So today I came up with a fun drink recipe to get your kids to drink more water and less sugary drinks! Not only does drinking water eliminate the sugary drink problem, it also helps rinse teeth clean of any sugar that is sitting on them. I call it “Jack Frost in a Glass”, or you can call it “Iceberg Water”. It looks so fun, they will will gulp it in down a second!
All you need is:
1 quart of water
Blue and green food coloring
First you fill up your pitcher with water. Add 4 drops of blue and 2 drops of green food coloring and stir.
Next, get your glasses and wet the rim. Then put some coconut on a plate and dip the glass into the coconut and cover the rim.
In a blender, crush up the ice (or use crushed ice from your fridge, if your fridge is the kind that makes crushed ice.)
Pour the blue water into the cup, being careful not to splash onto the coconut on the rim off the glass. Add ice and enjoy!
Remember, when you don’t take care of baby teeth, it sets up children for a lifetime of problems. Healthy baby teeth mean healthy adult teeth!

I was sent a set of blocks to review, all opinions are my own.
That is how you can describe how I feel about these blocks from Peurobaby. In a few weeks, I am going to release my Christmas gift guide with everything I think it worth checking out to put on your Christmas list and these Creepy Crawlies Bug Blocks are definitely going to make the cut.
In this set you get 28 handcrafted wooden blocks with the cutest creepy crawly bug on each block. And if you are like me and like to know you are buying not only educational toys for your kids but also safe toys, check out this list below to put your mind at ease:
The blocks come in a super cute box, and you can store them in there when your kids are done playing with them. They are very well crafted and I can see these being played for years to come. This is the kind of toy that will last and last and you could pass them on to your grandkids. There are not many toys these days where you could do that anymore.
This would also be a great baby shower gift or gift to give a special child for christmas. My BFF just had her 3rd baby and I am going to give her a set of these blocks. When you have a baby, not many people think to give them toys. Even though they might be too young to play with them now, in no time they will be crawling around and will love to play with blocks like these.

We we moved to Colorado, I went 4 years without going to the dentist. I had major jaw surgery when I was 20 so I only trusted my dentist back in Louisiana to work on my teeth. With all the rearrangement of my mouth, it’s harder to get my mouth numb and I have so many screws, it sets off airport security!
Well when I finally went to the Dentist 2 years ago, I had a mouth full of problems. 4 crowns, 2 extremely diffuclt root canals that were so special they had to be done by a specialist. After all that mayhem, I vowed to take extra care of my teeth from now on and so I didn’t owe a small fortune to my dentist.
Well this past dentist visit I had zero cavities. Judge me all you want but I cried. I have NEVER, in my entire life, not had any cavities at a dentist visit and I am 33! However a problem rose up. Apparently I had a gum infection. Gross right?! They said it actually probably had nothing to do with how well I brushed my teeth because it looked like I had been doing a good job, just a little bad luck and some yucky germs.
Every since then I have been on a charcoal kick. As soon as I got out of the dentist, I took 2 of my activated charcoal pills so of any of the infection traveled out of my mouth, the charcoal would bind to it and take it out of my body while preventing it from absorbing into my body.
But another thing I am doing is using activated charcoal toothpaste. I started using My Magic Mud activated charcoal toothpaste. My Magic Mud Whitening Toothpaste is the first toothpaste to combine activated coconut shell charcoal and bentonite clay. It is made with smart and wholesome ingredients and is fluoride-free, non-GMO, and Natural Cosmetics Standard certified.
Straight from their site: “Activated charcoal removes plaque, toxins that cause bad breath, and teeth stains through a process called adsorption where these unwanted elements adhere to the porous surface of the charcoal. The result is a dentist-like clean, and a brighter and whiter smile!”
That is exactly what I was looking for in a toothpaste. Not only the health and toxin fighting elements but also something to help whiten my teeth!

I am obsessed with this water bottle! It’s a reusable, refillable and BPA-free bottle that uses active Binchotan charcoal, a 500-year-old water filtration method from Japan. It makes your tap water taste great by absorbing impurities such as chlorine, then releases minerals – calcium, iron etc. – back into your water.
I started working at my kid’s school last week and they think this water bottle is so cool. About every kid asked me why is there s black stick in my water bottle 😉
It’s called the Eau Good by Black+Blum. It comes in 6 different colors and is great for kids and adults. We live in a well at our house and believe we have great drinking water but to me, I still like to drink filtered water. The charcoal stick has a six-month lifespan when recharged (boiled for 10 minutes) after three months use. This is longer than other products like this on the market.
And I just love the way it looks. It hold a lot of water and just looks cool!
